SPRING SYMPOSIUM '10
GROUP (FOREST) BONSAI
FEATURING
WILLIAM N. VALAVANIS

Bill Valavanis is one of North America's most highly regarded bonsai artists. At his International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, NY, Bill maintains a magnificent bonsai collection, teaches bonsai, and publishes "International Bonsai", a top quality bonsai magazine. In addition to his activities in Rochester, Bill is a much sought after teacher and lecturer who is regularly featured at major bonsai gatherings all over the world. CVBS is pleased to again sponsor his appearance in Lynchburg. His presentation will consist of a morning lecture/demonstration followed by an afternoon workshop.
The theme of Bill's presentation will be Group/Forest Bonsai featuring winter Japanese hornbeam. In the morning lecture/demonstration Bill will examine the very appealing forest style bonsai. He will create a group planting bonsai using the same Japanese hornbeam material that will be used in the afternoon workshop. Demo and workshop material has been grown in a pot for 1 year to establish good roots. No bare root plants! After a short lunch break on your own, Bill will lead a workshop which will enable each participant to create a group planting bonsai for their own collection with Bill’s individual help. This presentation and workshop will be inspirational to the expert but not intimidating to the beginner. Group plantings give satisfying results quickly using inexpensive material. There will be door prizes and raffles. All proceeds support CVBS events.
Bill is one of the most effective and enthusiastic bonsai teachers in the world today. Don't miss this opportunity to study with him. The public is welcome at all events. Registration fee(s) will be charged to defray the cost of Spring Symposium '09.
