THE CENTRAL VIRGINIA BONSAI SOCIETY
PRESENTS
SPRING SYMPOSIUM '12
SHIMPAKU LITERATI BONSAI
FEATURING
WILLIAM N. VALAVANIS
Bill Valavanis is one of North America's most highly regarded bonsai artists. At his International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, NY, Bill maintains a magnificent bonsai collection, teaches bonsai, and publishes "International Bonsai", a top quality bonsai magazine. In addition to his activities in Rochester, Bill is a much sought after teacher and lecturer who is regularly featured at major bonsai gatherings all over the world. CVBS is pleased to again sponsor his appearance in Lynchburg. His presentation will consist of a morning critique and lecture/demonstration followed by an afternoon workshop.
The theme of Bill's presentation will be Literati Bonsai featuring shimpaku juniper. In the morning Bill will begin with a critique of good quality bonsai focusing on how they can be further improved. In the following lecture/demonstration Bill will illustrate aspects of literati bonsai. After the illustrated lecture, he will do a demo using the same shimpaku material that will be used in the afternoon workshop. After a short lunch break on your own, Bill will lead a workshop which will enable each participant to create a shimpaku literati bonsai for their own collection. Mature plants are offered and promise great results. Please bring your own tools and wire. No potting will be done. This presentation and workshop will be inspirational to the expert but not intimidating to the beginner.
Bill is one of the most effective and enthusiastic bonsai teachers in the world today. Don't miss this opportunity to study with him. The public is welcome at all events. Registration fee(s) will be charged to defray the cost of Spring Symposium '12. The demo tree and a few other items will be raffled . All proceeds support CVBS events.
